Gourmet Passport was a big hit with their Gourmet passport book which entitles one plus one offers. After the success they have taken a step ahead and getting on with a digital approach, the Gourmet passport app.
They are now spread in 9 cities, yesterday was a evening to celebrate one successful year in the city of pearls , Hyderabad.
The Gourmet Passport is headed by Mr. Rocky Mohan, ranked amongst the 50 most influential people in the F and B industry and jury member for Asia’s top 50 restaurants. His love for food and fine dining has been reflected in TV appearences with international celebrities , award winning cookbooks and a lot of awards.
Now along with the coupons they plan to offer exclusive curated menus. We were lucky to experience one yesterday at Jonathan’s Kitchen. Before getting started we had a small brief on the success story by the man himself.
The evening was spread in 2 menus. One with appetizers and drinks, the other was a 4 course meal. The covers were all spread beautifully.
Lets get started. #hyderabadfoodexplorer #GPHyderabad #GourmetPassport
You’ll see dishes that you have never heard of in Hyderabad. That’s the best part. Some exclusive dishes.
Appetizers:
Vegetarian:
Asparagus fritta with hollandaise was the first one to come in. Asparagus had a flour dust and fried. The crispness of the coat and the soft asparagus went really good. The hollandaise added a slight zing to it.
One dish I was looking for was the baked brie with pistachio crust with walnut relish and oh boy, this lived up to the expectations. The nutty outside , creamy brie along with walnut relish was a really good one.
Fried tortellini with basil foam was a little off for me, the tortellini was a little dry, the oshinako nigiri looked good but I haven’t tasted it.
Non Vegetarian:
Curry leaf and herb crusted prawns were pretty good, although the crust was thick it still had that crunch and hint of curry leaf. This worked exceptionally good with the tamarind chilly reduction. Spicy and tangy at the same time.
Salmon Gravlax were roses made with smoked salmon, these were topped with caviar and sour cream. A little salty because of the caviar but the sour cream cut through beautifully.
The cilantro chicken fingers with chipotle mayo and nachos looked good, haven’t tried them. The beer battered calamari were good as well.
We had a few drinks to go along with food as well.
Menu #2
This was a 4 course menu. It had soup , salad , main course and dessert.
I opted for the Minestrone Alla Gamberi. The presentation needs a special mention. It had vegetables and pasta arranged on a deep plate. The soup was then poured in front of the guests. The soup had a very good balance of sourness and sweetness from the tomatoes. This was a great start.
From the salad we had Heirloom tomato Burrata , a really good burrata. A generous drizzle of olive oil made it even better. Fresh Tomatoes with the creamy burrata along with fresh ground pepper was exceptionally good.
The curried lamb shanks with Quinoa peanut pulao and garlic mashed potato was another star. Loved the way the lamb shanks were prepared. The only minute change would be , I would have liked the mashed potato to be thicker. But never the less this was one of the best dishes of the recent past.
The finale was the white and dark chocolate praline ganache on a nutty bar was good as well. It had a light ganache and a crunchy base. This was a good end to a perfect and well curated meal.
