Its been 5 years now that the state of Telangana was formed. Now that it was a new state it was time to globalize or educate the world about the regional specials and the culture. Everyone is taking a step to spread the cuisine , the major being the home cooks, because its the food one makes at home.
The food Festival menu is curated by a well renowned home cook, Author and a Publisher, Jyothi Valaboju garu.
Lets check it out. #hyderabadfoodexplorer #letsexplorehyderabad
As soon as you get in , you know you are in for a feast. A food tour of Telangana. From the condiments to the mains each and every dish is a part of the daily meal.
We were welcomed with buttermilk and fresh lime water. Much needed to beat the heat this summer.
The vegetarian soup was pesara pappu shorva , haven’t tried it but the Mamsam Bokkala Shorva was a really good one, mild flavours with bone marrow was a great beginning.
You also have snacks or sides which are frequent munches in the household. They include sakinalu , appalu and murukulu.
There were around 30 dishes (appetizers and main course) , I couldn’t taste them all. Amazing non vegetarian food and equally good vegetarian.
Kodi Rekkala vepudu was the best for me as an appetizer, chicken wings deep fried and tossed a semi coarse spice mix, perfect for munching anytime of the day.
kodi miryala vepuda was again good , but the heat from the pepper was extreme, not a spicy food kind of a person. But good in terms of the cooking style or the preparation.
Allugadda cutlet was a really good one as a vegetarian, mashed potato mixed with spices and green chilly , cut in shapes and deep fried.
For the mains I had Mamidikaya royyalu, talakaya kura , oori kodi kura and mamsam shorva.
Mamidikaya royyalu are a classic to telugu food, the raw mango with meat always does wonders. This was nothing less. Loved it.
The others again were really good , tender meat , not too spicy gravy. Although the gravy looks similar , the characteristics are different. My first taste of the talakaya kura and it didn’t disappoint.
We had poori, Bagara annam , mamidikaya pulihora to go along with the mains.
Leaving out on the desserts is not advisable at all , love for desserts is never ending. The local specials included quite a lot. I tried almost 70% of them. Nuvvula laddu was basic but good one. Sesame seeds mixed with sugar syrup and rolled in balls.
Double ka meetha was a really good one although it didn’t look appealing , was great taste wise. Bellapannam is nothing but a sweet pongal you can say. This is made with jaggery. Gummadikaya halwa is influence by the kaddu ka kheer , this though is not runny as the kheer.
Overall this was a great experience. If you wish to know and explore the food of Telanagana , this is your place to be until 20th of April.
The buffet is at Rayalaseema Ruchulu , Jubilee hills and is priced at 599 ++ for Vegetarian and 799++ for Non Vegetarian.
Thank you Team Rayalaseema Ruchulu for the hospitality and this.
Mrs. Jyothi Valaboju garu , the person behind all these amazing dishes.
