History:
Kundan Lal Gujral was the first in Peshawar to dig a Tandoor right in the middle of the eatery. Since then, Peshawar was introduced to the culinary art of Tandoori Chicken.
Gujral realized that the Tandoori Chicken hanging on the seekhs above the tandoor all day would tend to dry out if unsold. He then came up with the genius idea of creating a basic gravy with tomatoes, butter, cream and some spices to immerse the Tandoori Chicken pieces in, helping them regain moisture and become palatable again.
And thus, was born The Butter Chicken.
Firstly , when you pass by and see this name and the board don’t make up your mind for this as a mediocre restaurant.
I was definetly one of them. Hence the saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover”.
FOOD:
Started with the tamatar dhaniya shorba , it was thin and flavourful. the coriander gives the kick with the tangy tomato.
Then we had malai kebabs, hara bhara kebab, prawns tandoori , tandoori chicken , tandoori fish (tikka style).
Guess what I was absolutely blown away not just with the flavour but the perfection to which they were cooked.
Just that the prawns were tough to chew otherwise rest were remarkable.
Vegetarians go for the hara bhara kebab. Don’t think twice.
For the mains we went for their classics , butter chicken and rara mutton.
Undoubtedly the best butter chicken in hyderabad. The Rara mutton cooked with minced meat and chunks of meat.
Ended up with some malai and pista kulfi.
A completely satisfying meal.
AMBIENCE, PRICING AND LOCATION:
The ambience is not classy. it’s neither bad.
When you’re in for such good food you wouldn’t prioritize ambience.
The prices for butter chicken are pretty high but the portion size is also pretty big. I would definetly go when I crave for butter chicken. For sure.
